<em>Washington Examiner's</em> Peebles Gets Promoted

A congratulations to the Washington Examiner's resident hustler Jennifer Peebles, who has been promoted to Managing Editor, Digital. She works fast. She just came to the publication in April. Claim to fame: She's formerly Editor of The Vanderbilt Hustler. (Huh. Interesting name for a newspaper.) See the internal memo from Editor Stephen Smith... I'm pleased to announce that Jennifer Peebles, who has been a stalwart of the Watchdog team since she joined The Washington Examiner in April, has been promoted to Managing Editor, Digital. She and Mike Hedges will operate as team on the desk, and like Mike she will report to me. On the Watchdog team, Jennifer seemed to be everywhere at once, finding and digging deeply into databases, chivvying important facts from obscure public records, converting vital documents from useless formats into usable ones, creating informative interactive graphics for story packages, suggesting smart story angles to pursue, and much, much else. She came the Examiner from the online Texas Watchdog, where she was deputy editor. Before that she had extensive newspaper experience at The Tennessean in Nashville, spending five years as a reporter, two as the night/weekend editor, five as the paper's state team leader, and nearly four as the government team leader. With her deep understanding of both the print and digital sides, Jennifer is perfectly positioned to upgrade our digital platforms even as she helps maintain our high standards in print. She is a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors and has served as chairman of the Society of Professional Journalists' Digital Media Committee. A native of Georgia, she is a graduate of Vanderbilt, where she was editor of the student newspaper, The Vanderbilt Hustler. Please join me in congratulating her on her new post.
