WaPo Swipes NJ's Terence Samuel For Deputy National Political Editor

WaPo has hired NJ's Managing Editor of Congressional Coverage Terence Samuel to be their new Deputy National Political Editor. We've heard countless positive things about the "august" Samuel and anticipate that WaPo reporters working under him will approve of their new leader. STAFF NEWS: NEW DEPUTY NATIONAL POLITICAL EDITOR We are excited to announce that Terence Samuel will be National’s new deputy political editor in charge of congressional and White House coverage. Terry is a veteran political journalist who comes to us from National Journal, where he was managing editor of congressional coverage. He is author of the 2010 book, “The Upper House: A Journey Behind the Closed Doors of the U.S. Senate” and was a featured contributor to the anthology, “Best American Political Writing 2009.” Terry also is a former national correspondent for both the Philadelphia Inquirer and St. Louis Post Dispatch, spent five years as chief congressional correspondent for U.S. News & World Report, and in 2007 helped launch the Root.com, our sister site. He will join a strong political team led by National Political Editor Steven Ginsberg, who will turn his attention to overseeing our 2012 campaign coverage and expanding our brand. Deputy Political Editor Rachel Van Dongen will continue to oversee our PostPolitics site and concentrate on our daily digital footprint. Barbara Vobejda, who already is running important segments of our government coverage, will become more immersed in the editing of our political report. A couple of final points about Terry: He was a half-mile runner at City College of New York and didn’t lose a race until he went to the NCAA Division III championships. So we know he’s a winner. And there is this: “I grew up in Trinidad,” Terry says, “which means I’m likely to break out dancing at any moment.” It’s time to dance. Please welcome Terry when he arrives on July 18.
