TNR Tries Groupon

In August WaPo slashed their subscription cost by 75% for a one-day sale with group purchase site, Groupon.  The promotion worked well for the Post, selling 3,326 new subscriptions in just 24 hours.  Yesterday The New Republic gave the blue light special technique a whirl, offering a one-year subscription for $22.00 or 49% of the typical price of $44.97.  Unfortunately for TNR, the sale wasn’t received quite as well.  TNR gained only 245 new subscribers in the same amount of time.
