This evening at the W Hotel, The Week will host its 8th annual Opinion Awards honoring the nation’s best opinion commentary from the Left and Right. This year’s winners include Columnist of the Year Peggy Noonan of the Wall Street Journal, WaPo‘s Tom Toles who snagged the title of Cartoonist of the Year, and Blogger of the Year John Sides, co-founder of TheMonkeyCage.org.
Emceed by MTP’s David Gregory, the dinner event will also feature panelists Austan Goolsbee, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). In anticipation of the awards, The Week shared with FishbowlDC tonight’s program which includes a Q&A with Peggy Noonan. Here are a few of our favorite excerpts:
If she considers herself a partisan: “No, I’m a writer and a conservative. I want the best thing for America, not for the party.”
On who she gets more flak from – the right or the left: “Since 2005, more from the right.”
On Ronald Reagan: “I suspect Reagan would be surprised most, in our age, by the death of privacy.”
