The Hill toasts longtime Business and Lobbying Editor Jim Snyder tonight at the 18th Street Lounge. Snyder is well known for employing the phrase, “Is that it?” whenever anyone leaves for the day. Now he’s leaving for Bloomberg, as we recently reported. Tonight is his goodbye party.
Here’s the internal invitation that floated around the newsroom:
“As the ambassador for all social engagements at The Hill, I would like to invite all of you to come and raise a glass in honor of Jim (or as I like to call him, boss). He will be leaving the paper this Friday, after seven breezy years. The party will be at 18th Street Lounge–it’s Jim’s choice because he is so refined. The party will start most likely on the later side say around 6:30 or so unless Jim can corral you to leave work earlier on a deadline day.”
Snyder remarked to FishbowlDC: “I’ll miss the people, of course, particularly the ones I don’t know. There are a bunch of new faces over here and they all seem smart and nice and willing to work really odd hours and have no memory of me at The Hill Christmas parties.
Seriously, everyone has been great. I owe a lot to Hugo [Gurdon] and Bob [Cusack], both for giving me the opportunity to work here and for greatly improving the paper over the past seven years. Roxana [Tiron], Kevin [Bogardus] and Silla [Brush] have carried me for months. They’ve been terrific to work with, particularly those times when they weren’t yelling at me.”
