Surprise! Welcome to Kabul
The press corps aboard Air Force One this morning en route with President Bush to India and Pakistan received a little surprise: The plane detoured for a surprise stop in Afghanistan, touching down at Bagram Air Force Base and then the President met with Hamid Karzai.
The news, first announced on Air Force One mid-way through the flight by Scott McClellan and National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley, left the press corps a bit confounded. One reporter asked if this was the first announcement being made and whether the rest of the press corps back home already knew:
