Mama bird Greta Van Susteren is protective of Fox News hatchlings, especially when they are just starting to flutter their wings. Van Susteren swooped in Wednesday night to defend the obviously already fair and balanced Ed Henry, formerly with CNN, who stuck his beak out of the nest to question White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, who apparently has a thing or 10 against Fox News. Carney clearly dressed Henry down during the presser.
An obviously irate Van Susteren fired off commentary on her Gretawire blog: “I know the White House can be a bit paranoid and think that we at Fox are all sitting around thinking of ways to mess with them….but really, this is pretty petty!” Van Susteren said Henry “was doing his job” when Carney insulted Ed. She said Ed did what any “strong journalist” would do.

Politico‘s Julie Mason wrote about the Carney-Henry dustup late Wednesday. The former CNNer was known for being just as aggressive when he was at the other network: “Henry, who hardly pulled punches when he sat a few seats over for CNN, chided Carney, ‘That’s not what I’m doing. You know better than that.'”
Henry, who ordinarily would remark on an incident like this on Twitter, was silent. We asked the typically press-friendly TV journo for comment. He did not respond.
