Slate Readers Name 130-Year-Old Book Their Fave

Slate‘s Jack Dickerson, inspired by the release of O: A Presidential Novel (an anonymous novel rumored to be written by former aide and speechwriter for Sen. John McCain, Mark Salter), asked readers to name their favorite political novels. To start things off, Dickerson chose Washington, D.C.: The Best Man and Advise and Consent.

Turns out readers of Slate overwhelmingly love Democracy, also originally an anonymous work of fiction, published in 1880. Forty years later, the author was revealed to be Henry Adams.
