Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) yesterday penned a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, requesting a federal inquiry into the shooting of unarmed African American teen Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. and the infringement of police to peacefully protest and for a free press.

“I am troubled by reports that two law-abiding journalists, Ryan Reilly of the Huffington Post and Wesley Lowery of the Washington Post, were arrested and detained while in Ferguson investigating the protests,” wrote Booker. “I am deeply concerned about reports that peaceful, law-abiding protesters, including local official Antonio French, were also arrested, detained, and/or subjected to overly extreme law enforcement actions including tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades.”
