Amidst reports this morning that this wasn’t their first party crash and the Pentagon refuting their claims that their invitation came from DOD, Tareq and Michaele Salahi, the now infamous White House party crashers, are appearing exclusively on the “Today Show” from the Washington bureau of NBC News.
While Matt Lauer assures viewers he’ll talk extensively with the Salahis in the next half hour, in a few questions at the top, Tareq did say they did not party crash and that “the truth will soon come out.”
Tareq said they couple is cooperating with the Secret Service and that they have “great respect” for them and President Obama. He called this the “most devastating” thing to ever happen to them.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs also appeared at the top of the show. Meredith Vieira’s interview focused on the President’s speech on Afghanistan this evening, but she also asked about the State Dinner crashers. “You don’t show up at the White House as a misunderstanding,” Gibbs said.
