Rezaian Trial Update: Second Hearing Set for Next Week
The trial remains behind closed doors.
A second hearing for imprisoned Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian has been scheduled for next week, reported Iran’s Students News Agency (ISNA) on Wednesday.
“Jason’s second hearing will be on Monday at branch 15 of the Revolutionary court,” Leila Ahsan, Rezaian’s lawyer, told ISNA.
The trial for the Post’s Tehran bureau began on May 26 behind closed doors, despite many protests–including the newspapers’ executive editor Martin Baron, who has called the trial “contemptible prosecution.”
Rezaian, who has been charged with espionage among several other serious charges, faces up to 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted.
