Politico got all truthy this morning as they sent out their breaking news alert on Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) finally getting a grip on the fact that he lost his congressional race.
At 5:48 a.m. they wrote:
“GOP Rep. Allen West has conceded the election in Florida’s 18th District to Democrat Patrick Murphy, he said in a statement to POLITICO. The Republican had been challenging the vote-counting process in St. Lucie County.”
Really. TO Politico? Sure, the campaign might have technically sent the statement to Politico, but they also sent the exact same statement to WPTV in Palm Beach, HuffPost, the Miami Herald and to many other media outlets in the country that wanted it. Sorry, Politico, looks like you posted the statement about 40 minutes ahead of HuffPost, but you hardly get to claim an exclusive statement on this one.
See the statement that was officially released at 6:15 a.m. …“For two weeks since Election Day, we have been working to ensure every vote is counted accurately and fairly,” West said in the statement. “We have made progress toward that goal, thanks to the dedication of our supporters and their unrelenting efforts to protect the integrity of the democratic process. While many questions remain unanswered, today I am announcing that I will take no further action to contest the outcome of this election.”
