Pew Research Compares Reporter, PR Specialist Salaries in 2013 vs. 2004
Based on 2013 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Pew Research Center analyzed journalism and public relations salaries last year compared to 2004 as well as the number of individuals in those professions.
“In 2013, according to BLS data, public relations specialists earned a median annual income of $54,940 compared with $35,600 for reporters,” wrote Alex Williams, a Google Journalism Fellow at the Pew Research Center, on Monday.
That number equates to reporters earning 65 cents for every dollar earned by PR practitioners in 2013, down compared to 71 cents earned by journalists in 2004.
