In advance of a one hour special airing tonight on NBC, The New York Times’ Bill Carter previews NBC’s Brian Williams’ sit down interview with Edward Snowden.
Williams met Snowden last week at the Kempinsky Hotel in Moscow for his first interview with an American television station since the former NSA contractor was propelled into the spotlight.
“He is blindingly smart,” said Williams to Carter. “Pay no attention to the fact that he only has a G.E.D. from high school…I joked about how, here we were, two guys with high school degrees, both dropouts from the otherwise great American community college system.”
Williams explained that after he asked, Snowden made his case for a plea bargain, as well as discussed being stranded in Russia after the US government revoked his passport.
The special is set to air tonight at 10pm on NBC. For more on Carter’s piece, click here.
