National Journal to Drop Print Publication

Not even a recent National Magazine Award nomination could save the publication.

Atlantic Media chairman and National Journal owner David Bradley announced today that the organization will cease print publication of the 46-year-old National Journal Magazine by the end of the year. Layoffs of magazine staff are expected following the end of the print run.

In an explanation of his decision, Bradley began with the usual print-is-dying narrative, writing that “news in Washington now moves too quickly for a weekly publication,” and that “likely, the best years of weekly print magazines are passed.”
