Here’s a journalist we can all root for: freelancer Nate Thayer.
Thayer fired back against The Atlantic this week after a new editor, Olga Khazan, formerly of WaPo, reached out and asked him to repurpose one of his posts gratis, saying it would offer him great exposure. Thayer then turned around and posted the entire exchange without telling Khazan he was doing so. And New York Magazine writes it up in a post that has us clamoring for more Thayer. Or, more New York Magazine’s Joe Coscarelli on Thayer, we’re not sure.
“I don’t need the exposure,” Thayer told NYM. “What I need is to pay my fucking rent. Exposure doesn’t feed my fucking children. Fuck that!” he said, explaining that he can’t afford to get online and steal his neighbor’s wifi.
