An NBC release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research data, ‘NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams’ narrowed the gap with ‘ABC World News with Charles Gibson’ last week to a mere 26,000 viewers separating the two broadcasts. For the week of September 3-7, 2007, ‘Nightly News’ attracted 7.781 million total viewers, ABC averaged 7.807 million, and CBS ‘Evening News’ had 5.465 million viewers.”

An ABC release announced, “For the eighteenth time in twenty weeks, ABC’s ‘World News with Charles Gibson’ was the #1 evening newscast among Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. For the week of September 3-7, the ABC broadcast averaged 7.81 million Total Viewers and a 1.9/8 among Adults 25-54, outperforming NBC’s ‘Nightly News’ by 30,000 Total Viewers and 100,000 key demo viewers. Additionally, ‘World News” lead over CBS’ ‘Evening News’ among Total Viewers (2.35 million) was the largest in more than three months (week of May 28, 2007).”

Variety reports, “CBS is adding its network of local TV and radio station websites to its online ‘audience network,’ which distributes Eye primetime shows across the web. CBS Interactive announced Monday it had inked deals with CBS’ 29 owned TV affiliates and 144 CBS Radio websites, as well as a number of the 183 websites owned by CBS affiliates across the country.”

MediaWeek reports, “ABC is in talks with several Web sites as it tries to create a broad digital distribution platform for its programming, becoming the latest network to signal a reversal in its online strategy. Like other networks, ABC initially took a go-it-alone stance, but is now looking to partner with Internet players they don’t own or operate in an effort to maximize and monitize their programming online.”
USAToday reports, “If you’re tired of paying for dozens of cable TV channels that you don’t want and don’t watch, relief may be on the way. The Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday plans to begin considering banning programmers from ‘tying’ making cable systems take less-popular or new channels to get must-haves, such as ESPN (DIS) or CBS (CBS).”
Bloomberg reports, “U.S. advertising spending was little changed at $72.6 billion in the first half as gains in Internet and magazines made up for declines in broadcast television in newspapers, according to TNS Media Intelligence.”

A Comcast release announced, “Beginning September 18, Comcast Digital Cable subscribers in Washington, DC will have access to the Pentagon Channel, the television network dedicated to providing military information and news to viewers both stateside and overseas via the American Forces Radio and Television Services. Available on Channel 185, the Pentagon Channel showcases a host of original programming including Department of Defense (DOD) news briefings, military news, interviews with top Defense officials and short stories about the work of our country’s military.”

The AP reports, “Shares of several newspaper publishers traded lower Monday, after a Wachovia Capital Markets analyst cautioned on ad revenue results for the second half of the year.”
Bloomberg reports, “Dow Jones & Co., publisher of the Wall Street Journal, said some jobs will be cut after the company’s $5.2 billion sale to Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.”
DM News reports, “The New York Times Company will launch international editions of its T Magazines in December, due, in part, to the magazinesâ€™ high ad sales this year.”
