An ABC release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research for Sunday, August 31, 2008, ABC News’ ‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos’ outperformed CBS’ ‘Face the Nation’ among total viewers and the key Adults 25-54 demographic. This is the 31st time this season ‘This Week’ beat ‘Face’ among total viewers. It also marks the 21st time (plus three ties) ‘This Week’ has placed second among Adults 25-54. Additionally, ‘This Week’ continues to grow among both Total Viewers and the key Adults 25-54 demographic.”
A Nielsen release shows that “More than half a million more people watched John McCain’s acceptance speech (38.9 million) than Barack Obama’s the week before (38.4 million).” The audience estimate for Thursday was 28,298 households.
An ABC release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research for the week of August 25, 2008, ABC News’ ‘Nightline’ outperformed CBS’ ‘Letterman’ among Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. This marks ‘Nightline’s’ seventeenth victory (plus one tie) over ‘Letterman’ among the key A25-54 demographic this season and the twelfth victory (plus two ties) over CBS among Total Viewers. Against ‘Lettterman’ originals, ‘Nightline’ has beaten ‘Letterman’ eight times in the A25-54 demo and five times among total viewers this season. Additionally, ‘Nightline’ grew among total viewers and Adults 25-54 compared to the same week last year while the competition declined.”
A NBC release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research data, ‘Meet the Press’ was the most-watched Sunday morning public affairs program, winning the week ending Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 in all categories. The program was No. 1, averaging 4.249 million total viewers, +48 percent more (+1,382,000) than second place ABC’s ‘This Week’ 2.867 million, a +49 percent advantage (+1,395,000) over third place CBS’ ‘Face the Nation’ 2.854 million and a +184 percent lead (+2,753,000) over FOX News Sunday’s 1.496 million. ‘Meet the Press’ has now placed first in total viewers for 99 consecutive weeks and 363 of the past 364 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage).”
An ABC release announced, “On September 4th, night four of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, ABC News’ primetime coverage averaged 5.97 million Total Viewers and a 1.7 rating among Adults 25-54. The coverage aired live across the country from 10-11:15 p.m., ET.”
A NBC release announced, “On the final night of the Republican National Convention, 10.247 million Americans turned to the networks of NBC News to watch Sen. John McCain’s acceptance speech live from St. Paul, Minnesota. NBC was #1 among the broadcast networks, averaging 8.663 million total viewers.”
A PBS release announced PBS’ 2008 Republican National Convention Coverage averaged 2.6 million viewers over the four nights.
