Today we begin a new feature in which we pull any newsworthy bits from Fox News’ The Five and its MSNBC counterpart, The Cycle and analyze the relationships and personalities of the opposing shows. In short, we watch so you don’t have to.
Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele may be the most disciplined TV news contributor. Nothing throws him off track; not even random shouts of “HOWARD STERN’S PENIS!”
Steele appeared Wednesday as a guest on MSNBC’s The Cycle from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. They asked him to compare and contrast the Republican Convention from last week and the first day in Charlotte. While Steele described the atmosphere in Charlotte in front of a live crowd outside the convention hall, a man started yelling “BA BA BOOEY! BA BA BOOEY! HOWARD STERN’S PENIS! BA BA BOOEY!” Steele continued unperturbed.
The “Booey Bomb,” as this incident is commonly referred to, is a prank played by onlookers of a live radio or TV broadcast. It originated on The Howard Stern Show.
Following the Booey Bomb, Steele was what we’ll call “baby bombed.” In the middle of his commentary on the speeches that had taken place at the convention, a baby was held up in the background for no less than 10 seconds. It was a complete distraction from Steele’s words. He pressed on.
Finally, at the tail end of his segment, the entire crowd got in on the fun of disrupting Steele. “FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS!” they chanted. Steele seemed to cave. As the The Cycle‘s hosts thanked him for being on the program, an exasperated Steele said, “Eight more weeks. Eight more weeks.”
