Leist Named NBC Senate Producer

The domino effect on promotions at NBC's Washington bureau continues today as Libby Leist is named Senate Producer for the network. Leist, a 10-year NBC vet and Senior Producer of "The Daily Rundown" will fill the void left by Ken Strickland who was recently promoted to Deputy Bureau Chief when Antoine Sanfuentes replaced Mark Whitaker as Washington Bureau Chief. Whitaker, as you might remember, left NBC News to take a gig as Managing Editor for CNN Worldwide earlier this year. Internal memo announcing Leist's promotion after the jump. "We are pleased to announce that Libby Leist will be moving to Capitol Hill to cover the Senate. In this role, she joins our Capitol Hill team to cover the goings on of the Upper Chamber and produce for the many platforms of NBC News. I am confident that her solid editorial judgment, experience in the political arena, and valuable relationships both within the network and throughout Washington will give her - and all of NBC News- a competitive edge on Capitol Hill. Libby has done a tremendous job as the Senior Producer for MSNBC's "The Daily Rundown" with Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie since the show's launch in January 2010. Libby was a key part of the development of the show, and in her role as senior producer she oversaw the day-to-day programming and editorial decision making. During this time, Libby produced interviews with President Obama, the First Lady, and then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Prior to "The Daily Rundown," Libby was the State Department producer for NBC News, where she reported on U.S. foreign policy for "Today," "Nightly News," MSNBC and MSNBC.com. During her four years at the State Department, Libby traveled extensively overseas covering Secretaries of State Rice and Clinton. Libby worked closely with NBC's Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell, including producing broadcasts of "Andrea Mitchell Reports" from Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Libby is a graduate of Cornell University. She started her career in the NBC Washington Bureau as a desk assistant in 2001 followed by stints as a researcher and Associate Producer.
