Editor & Publisher goes belly up
Another publication has fallen prey to the fallen publishing industry. Nielson Business Media has decided to “cease operations” at Editor & Publisher, Romenesko reports.
Ottenberg among Min’s Top 21 Most Intriguing People in Media
Jane Ottenberg, president of TMG, a D.C.-based custom media firm, loves to read trashy magazines – rags like Us and Star. In fact, she did just that on her train ride back from New York City where she was honored Wednesday for being one of Min’s top 21 Most Intriguing People of 2009.
“Had to get caught up on Tiger,” Ottenberg said, referring to scandal-torn golf star Tiger Woods, who has been caught up in a tangled web of infidelities. “I bought three trashy magazines. I had a great train ride.”
TMG, which Ottenberg founded 28 years ago with her husband and partner Richard Creighton, publishes magazines like WebMD (the magazine), Washington Flyer and The Aspen Idea.
On the industry’s shaky state of affairs: “I just wrote a letter to the editor of Vanity Fair saying please charge more for your subscriptions because it’s starting to be fewer words.” She laments the struggling industry, saying, “No, no, no, not Vanity Fair.”
Ottenberg received her “most intriguing” award in the company of Seventeen’s VP and Publisher Jayne Jamison and BettyConfidential.com’s Myrna Blyth.
And when she’s not reading trashy magazines, Ottenberg reads her other favorites such as The New Yorker and New York Magazine.
