McCain finished the quarter with $1.8 million in debt, but he also reported that he is owed $126,000. That includes $15,000 from members of the media, including New York Times reporter Michael Cooper and photographers Christopher Morris of Time magazine and Justin Sullivan of Getty Images.
The campaign fronted the cost of the journalists’ travel when they joined McCain in late April on his announcement tour. By the close of the second-quarter books June 30, they hadn’t responded to bills sent by the campaign.
