Today marks the final day of Jay Carney’s tenure as White House Press Secretary. And just prior to his final White House press briefing, Carney took to the podium as Guided by Voices’ “Motor Away” played.
“I have loved every minute of every day, even the many minutes of many days I spent in this room,” Carney said before concluding. “As I think most of you now understand and believe, it’s always a pleasure no matter how hard it can get in here, no matter how hot it can be and contentious it sometimes is.
Carney, 49, announced his intentions to step down in late May, the same day that President Obama accepted the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki. Replacing him is the now former Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest.
The former Washington bureau chief of TIME magazine has yet to announce his plans are post-White House. Assume finding a job won’t be too hard.
