TBD appears to be in disarray as of late. FishbowlDC sources confirm that Managing Editor Paul Volpe is preparing to leave the publication still in its infancy. Volpe, formerly with WaPo, isn’t denying it. Top brass could convince him to stay, but few are banking on it.
Just two months ago, the newbie publication lost its General Manager Jim Brady due to differences of opinion about the direction of the localized site with Publisher Robert Allbritton.
When asked if he is leaving, Volpe offered this polite, non-denial by e-mail: “Thanks for the note. As a rule, I try not to entertain any speculation about my future. I am enjoying my work and trying to contribute to TBD as we move forward and grow. If my status were to change, I’d be happy to talk to you about it, but for now I really don’t have anything to say. Best, Paul”
We questioned him further. “So what’s your take — do you think someone was making up the information? Is this a completely ridiculous sentiment?”
Volpe replied, “I’m not trying to be difficult, but I really don’t have anything to add. I do appreciate you reaching out.”
Fair enough. Volpe said he’ll happily offer an update if anything changes.
