Incest Desk: <em>Daily Caller</em> MMFA Series Part II Arrives

The Daily Caller's series on Media Matters for America continues. Late last night, installment two arrived. This one involves the liberal media watch dog group plotting a methodical destruction of Fox News. The source: An internal memo. The headline: 'FOX HUNT.' In this story, written solo by Editor-in-Chief Tucker Carlson, paints a picture of an organization that wants to go after Fox News employees -- both professionally and personally. Like the last, they name names. This time it's former employee Karl Frisch, now of Bullfight Strategies and a syndicated columnist, who sent a memo to David Brock detailing a plan to "attack" FNC. In it, Frisch insists FNC is the enemy of the Obama Administration and the entire progressive movement. An excerpt and likely the most damning graph in the piece: "What Frisch proceeded to suggest, however, went well beyond what legitimate presidential campaigns attempt. 'We should hire private investigators to look into the personal lives of Fox News anchors, hosts, reporters, prominent contributors, senior network and corporate staff,' he wrote. Carlson is scheduled to appear on Fox and Friends this morning at 8:15 a.m. to discuss the story. Meanwhile...the publication continues to ruffle the feathers of Politico and BuzzFeed Editor and Politico columnist Ben Smith. And WaPo's Erik Wemple makes fun of The Daily Caller series, saying that he too, has played ball with MMFA. You don't want to miss the brawling between Carlson and Smith... Byers discloses that Smith was formerly his boss. Nonetheless, the dog fight between Smith and Carlson has grown intense. The latest round of arguments between them centers on an internal memo from MMFA that Smith broke a year ago. Only The Daily Caller maintains that Smith used only a small portion of it and didn't tell the full story. Smith refuses to talk to The Daily Caller, insisting they've made mistakes about him in the past and have refused to correct them. Carlson writes Smith the following, which was reported by none other than Byers. Can this thing get any more incestuous? "It was interesting to hear how contemptuous the Media Matters people are of you. It's not your politics — you all are on the same page of course — but the fact you're a stenographer. Even they don't respect that." Ben ultimately wrote back... "Thanks for calling, best of luck with the story. I do have a quote, which is also the truth: 'Because The Daily Caller has made specific mistakes about me and refused to correct them in the past, I'm afraid I'm not comfortable speaking to you about this.'" And in a strange twist of Carlson essentially acting like he's Byers' editor, Byers writes, "The Daily Caller did not publish Smith's quote in it's piece, though Carlson has asked that if I publish his correspondence with Smith, I quote him in full." We can hardly wait for Tuesday's installment narrated by a man with a deep, sexy TV voice who says, "Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives with Politico and The Daily Caller."
