In Memoriam: Charles Maynes

Charles William Maynes, a longtime editor of Foreign Policy magazine who was also a former assistant secretary of state, died on Saturday at his home in Chevy Chase, Md. He was 68.

The cause was cancer, said his wife, Gretchen Maynes.

Published by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Foreign Policy is considered an influential voice in the coverage of international relations, with a circulation of more than 100,000. Mr. Maynes was its editor from 1980 to 1997; from 1973 to 1976, he was secretary of the Carnegie Endowment.
