QUOTES of the DAY
Reporter tries to stay positive
“I’m now desperately raising my hand.” — MetroWeekly‘s Senior Political Writer Chris Geidner in a Thursday tweet while at the White House briefing in which Press Secretary Jay Carney shook things up by calling on a myriad of other reporters after hitting the front row. “Not today, alas,” he replied, when asked if Carney ever called on him. Come on Carney, you must call on him next time. We’re officially lobbying for Geidner.
Number of days since @DCJourno has tweeted: 10
“Meet the Gregory” is… Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert‘s new nickname for NBC’s “MTP.” (Might have something to do with the fact that at the end of “MTP” each week, viewers are invited to log on to the host’s TV address: “To hear more from David, log on to www.davidgregorytv.com.”)
New trial nickname for VandeHarris: “HariHei” (For FishbowlDC newcomers, these are blended names for Politico’s founding editors John Harris and Jim VandeHei.)
Boy Bander falls ill
“Illness coming on at such a high speed I’m hoping Walker will defund it.” — Slate‘s Dave Weigel in a Thursday tweet. We wish you a speedy recover, Weigel.
Tschida’s turbulent travels from Frederick
“Trip home from Frederick last night truly “the ride from HELL”! snow ice and limited visibility… kept thinking slip sliding away.” — ABC7’s Stephen Tschida in a Tuesday night tweet. It’s not the wild train ride, but still…
Anonymous Tipster questions Fineman interview at the Ritz
“Being middle class. $50 for lunch w/ Howard is a bit pricey especially when we can hear him yakking almost anytime on TV. How much does he get for this gig? Now that might make a story!” — Anonymous Tipster to FishbowlDC on Thursday in anticipation of today’s Q & A Cafe at The Ritz starring MSNBC’s Howard Fineman with host Carol Joynt. Lunch costs $50. Fineman earns no money for doing the interview.
Tragedy or triumph? The other Ezra not yet on Twitter
“Can you believe I do not use twitter? I can barely believe it, but it is true. The other interns here are all telling me I should get one. Maybe I will some day. I’ll let you know when I do.” — TNR web intern and our favorite Washington Ezra, Ezra Deutsch-Feldman, in response to our question: “What’s your Twitter handle?” Perhaps he should stay innocent to Washington ways just a little longer. He is not to be confused for Ezra #1 as in WaPo‘s liberal blogger and FishbowlDC hater Ezra Klein.
“You’re never a bother — I’m just not the Complaints Dept for ABC News.” — ABC News White House Correspondent Jake Tapper to a follower on Thursday. The follower, who also targeted CNN’s Ed Henry and NBC’s Chuck Todd, prompted the comment with this: “A huge story like the protests and only 1 side is repped? Criticism is justified. …We write letters, call send emails and we never get a response. On the off chance we do, it never addresses our concerns.” And this: “So just nevermind. I won’t bother u again.”
At long last: Greta tastes Lorraine’s soup
“I am sitting at my desk eating soup that Lorraine Wallace (my FNC colleague Chris’ wife) made from a recipe in her new book. The soup is to die for…yes, it is very, very good.” — FNC’s Greta Van Susteren in a Thursday blog update. Fast becoming the soup that won’t go away, Lorraine’s book is Mr. Sunday’s Soup. She stirs it on Sundays for Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace while he tirelessly hosts his grueling show. The soup nurses him back to his natural zen state.
