Freedom Communications Inc. Files for Bankruptcy Protection

It is another sad day for the news business.

Freedom Communications Inc., owner of the Orange County Register, filed for Chapter 11 protection. It is the tenth publisher to do so in the last year. No word on what this means for the Register‘s D.C. bureau.

WILMINGTON, Del. The owner of the Orange County Register in California and dozens of other newspapers became the latest publisher Tuesday to seek bankruptcy protection, hurt by a jarring drop in advertising revenue.
