Environmental Books Publisher Island Press Names New President

David Miller takes over for founding president Charles Savitt.

Island Press, a Washington-based non-profit publisher focused on environmental issues, has named David Miller its new president.

Miller replaces president Charles Savitt, who steps down after over 30 years at the helm of the group he took over in 1984, giving it a new life and mission right before its original owners were ready to fold.

“As we enter our next chapter,” said Savitt in a statement, “David’s vision, strategy and wealth of knowledge in both traditional and digital publishing combined with the organization’s strong ties to thought leaders are exactly what Island Press needs.”
