David Brooks has Dating Advice

Slate’s and CBS’s John Dickerson interviews NYT Columnist David Brooks about his new book, Social Animal for “Washington Unplugged.”

About three minutes in, Brooks, 49 and married, comes up with offbeat dating advice. “Say your dating someone, one of the things they suggest is startle them,” he says. “When you startle someone, if they react with anger then you can tell something about their underlying temperament. If they laugh, you can tell something else.” Before all that, however, Brooks says there are a whole host of unconscious details going on that impact who we like.
