CQ Roll Call: The 411 on Mike Mills, a New CFO, and Other Changes

At around 11:30 a.m. CQ Roll Call Editorial Director Mike Mills called an all-newsroom meeting. Highlights: Mills is out and off to a new job at the Society for Science and the Public. Vinay Shah is the new CFO. Lastly, Rick Rockelli has been promoted to SVP and Chief Revenue Officer. And the hunt for a new Editorial Director is on. Here's the internal memo... Folks - I would like to let you know about a significant departure, as well as two strategic changes to the senior team. I regret to announce that Mike Mills has decided to leave the company to take on the newly created position of Chief Content Officer at the Society for Science and the Public, a D.C.-based non-profit dedicated to public engagement in science. In his new role, Mike will oversee all editorial and strategy for their award-winning publications, and lead a significant expansion of the business over the next year. I am deeply appreciative of Mike's personal commitment to the success of CQ Roll Call. In fact, Mike began mapping out the next stage of his career several months ago, but he was determined to assist the senior leadership team in completing this most recent restructuring before he would accept a role outside of the company. Mike has made enormous contributions during his three stints at CQ Roll Call, including his part the launch of our verticals, our Executive Briefs, the integration of CQ and Roll Call and the upcoming redesign of our daily product. His profound understanding of the journalism and data in this market, along with his genius in coming up with solutions to design and edit problems will be missed, and I am personally very grateful for all of his efforts over our many years working together. I have no doubt he will make an enormous impact in his exciting new role, and we look forward to seeing his continued success. We have begun a search for a new Editorial Director, and Scott Montgomery and Susan Benkelman will report to me in the interim. John Dineen will continue reporting to Meg in his temporary assignment, and Peter King will report to Susan during this period. In addition, I would like to announce two strategic changes to our senior team, designed to allow us great focus in implementing our key initiatives. I am very pleased to announce that Vinay Shah will become our new CFO. Vinay has done an extraordinary job as our interim CFO, providing a calm, informed and innovative approach and repositioning finance as a provider of solutions and integrated partner to the business. Under Vinay's direction, we have already vastly improved our forecasting, consolidated our sales approval process in finance, and are continuing to look for ways to simplify our operations. Vinay will continue as CFO of EIU, reporting to Chris Stibbs in that capacity. Vinay has been with The Economist Group since 2007, with another ten years of experience in our industry with Dow Jones and PR Newswire. Vinay lives in New Jersey with his wife and two children, and he will continue to split his time between New York and Washington. Please join me in congratulating Vinay on his promotion and his new role. In addition, I am promoting Rick Rockelli to the new role of SVP and Chief Revenue Officer, where he will drive our pricing and packaging strategies for content sales, and be responsible for new sales and renewals across all circulation products. Since re-joining CQ Roll Call last May, Rick has led our strategy and marketing, and more recently, our pricing initiative. Over the past year, in partnership with sales, Rick's focus on generating trials has helped dramatically increase our sales to new customers. In addition, he has worked closely with SVP of Sales Jim Gale and VP of Sales Sean Doyle in restructuring our sales team, and he will lead the implementation of our new packaging strategy to support our growth goals with sales reporting in.
