The venerable Face the Nation host donned his black jeans, cowboy boots and Fort Worth Star Telegram belt buckle last night for Grammys on the Hill- and an interview with another country music star, Garth Brooks.

Bob Schieffer broke in this interview that Brooks was at the White House yesterday to present President Obama with a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album for “The Audacity of Hope.” This is actually the President’s second Grammy- he won the same category in 2006 for “Dreams From My Father.”

Schieffer- who has his own band, Honky Tonk Confidential with CBS News’ Diana Quinn- led what I guess you can call a tribute to Brooks. Senator Dick Durbin, Congressman Darrell Issa and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (shaking a tambourine) joined him in a priceless rendition of “Friends in Low Places.”

Pun intended! When Bob asked Garth if “Friends in Low Places” referred to the people in Washington… “I can make a whole video from people in this town singing that song,” he said.
