Congressman Who Called for the Firing of CNN Correspondent Should Re-read the Bill of Rights

Freedom of the press: a fundamental, Constitutional right since 1787.

The best response to a tweet from Rep. Randy Weber this morning in which he wrote “The CNN reporter who was disruptive to the press briefing, & disrespectful to Trump-should be fired & prohibited from any press briefings” came from another CNNer, Jake Tapper, who tweeted back an image of the Bill of Rights along with the acronym ICYMI.

Since we could probably all use a reminder of the rights that have been enshrined in our country’s founding document, here is that First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
