City Paper Unveils New Website

The Washington City Paper unveiled their new website today. From their City Desk blog: OK, at long last, say hello to the new washingtoncitypaper.com and the new City Desk! Washington City Paper, loyal readers know, has had a rather checkered history when it comes to our commitment to the Web. Last March, after a long stint stuck in 1996, we moved into the late '90s. Today, we move into the mid-2000s. We realize this isn't state-of-the-art Web 2.0 stuff just yet. But you'll find a radically more accessible and navigable site. Here's what you'll find: More usable event listings. An easy-to-use toolbox in the right column of every page. Get listings, restaurants, classifieds, movies, and matches in just a couple of clicks. A more attractive and readable editorial layout. That includes making our arts and feature content easier to find. Play with the tabs above to get an idea. A more consistent look and feel across the site. And our archives are now FREE. Given, the output looks much the But just click on the byline and you can search for all the author's stories back to the mid-'90s. We're done by no means. We're in the process of taking the multiple systems behind our listings, restaurants, editorial, and archives databases and moving them together in one spot so they work better together and will allow us to offer more features, including a unified search, to wcp.com users. We're also still building a more full-fledged content management system, which will allow us to expand our interactive offerings later in 2007.
