People who are tone deaf shouldn’t sing. Likewise, former aides to President Obama who write headlines that leave a reader wanting to catch his breath should stop. In a weekend tweet, former White House National Press Secretary Bill Burton wrote, “Alternate headline for this NYT piece: Smart Campaign Moves Keep Mediocre 2d-Place Candidacy Afloat for Romney.” The NYT headline to the story is this: “Romney, Always Campaigning for Others … and for Himself.”

Burton, now Senior Strategist for Priorities USA, should stick to consulting.
