AP Appoints New D.C. Editor

The AP’s Washington bureau chief, Sandy Johnson, announced this morning that former Houston Chronicle D.C. Bureau Chief John C. Henry will be the wire’s Washington news editor.

A native Texan, Henry, 56, has covered politics and government as a reporter and editor for the Houston Chronicle and the Austin American-Statesman since 1980, and since 2000 has been the bureau chief for the Chron, the nation’s seventh-largest newspaper.

A graduate of Mississippi State University, Henry’s newspaper career began with a stint at the Delta Democrat-Times in Greenville, and later at the Starkville Daily News, and the Meridian Star.

He’s also a former Knight Fellow at Stanford University.
