Andy Shallal Gets a Radio Gig

Pacifica owned radio station WPFW announced this week that former mayoral candidate Andy Shallal will host a new show focused on entrepreneurship and social justice called “Business Matters.” Beginning this week, the station is introducing a whole crop of new shows to coincide with it’s return to 50,000 watt power. For most of the last three years, the “Jazz and Justice” station (they air jazz and world music as well as progressive talk) has been broadcasting at as little as 16,000-watts, barely audible in Alexandria or far Southeast DC. Upon its return to full-power last week, the Station can once again be heard as far as Delaware and Richmond.

Along with “Business Week,” other news shows debuting include “The Collision: Sports and Politics” co-hosted by former Washington Wizard Eton Thomas and sports essayist Dave Zirin; and “Arise,” a labor program hosted by longtime trade unionist and labor leader Bill Fletcher.
