Abbreviated America

The words “hope” and “change” abbreviated an entire campaign platform. Google reader abbreviates your daily reads and Twitter abbreviates group conversation for millions every day.

At The Atlantic’s viewing party last night, a Q&A with former Clinton speechwriter Jeff Shesol and Atlantic Editors Ross Douthat and Megan McArdle proved that maybe even discussion panels can be abbreviated to accommodate a short attention span.

The last question before the viewing? Nominate an adjective to describe the theme of tonight’s address:

“Volatile”

– Meghan McArdle

“Challenge”

– Jeff Shesol

“Freaked-out!”

– Ross Douthat
