A 'New Assignment' Means Resigned for AP Reporter

Jennifer Loven, the AP's White House correspondent and an AP reporter for 18 years, is officially off the beat. She has resigned and is preparing to leave her job tomorrow. Loven (as shown here to the right of the President) will soon set up shop at the Glover Park Group - the news was first reported by Politico's Mike Allen this morning. Steve Komarow, AP's Acting D.C. Bureau Chief, sent a first memo out to staff saying Loven "will be taking on a new assignment at her request." This suggested Loven might stay within AP. Today, in another memo, he spells out that assignment, but doesn't name Glover Park Group... > Update: The Glover Park Group put out its own statement on Loven. Jennifer's AP career spanned 18 years, beginning as an editorial assistant in Washington, then a reporter covering features, politics and the legislature in Michigan. She returned to Washington as Illinois regional reporter. In 8 years at the White House, she reported with distinction from more than 50 countries and all 50 states. We will miss her. Steve Jennifer Loven Joins The Glover Park Group As Managing Director WASHINGTON, D.C. - August 12, 2010 - The Glover Park Group announced today that Jennifer Loven, Chief White House correspondent for The Associated Press and past president of the White House Correspondents Association is joining the firm as a Managing Director in its Public Affairs practice. In nearly 18 years with the AP, Loven covered and traveled with two presidents and many presidential campaigns, wrote from all 50 states and more than 50 foreign countries, and landed and conducted the AP's first television interview with a president. "Jennifer brings to GPG an understanding of politics and public affairs that is simply unmatched," said Chip Smith, The Glover Park GroupÂ’s Chief Executive Officer. "It is rare that a talent of her caliber becomes available in Washington, and we are thrilled to have her join our team." As a White House reporter, Loven covered all major Bush White House stories, including the Iraq war, 2004 re-election, foreign leader summits at home and abroad, Supreme Court nominations, Hurricane Katrina and the economic meltdown. In 2008 she was named chief White House correspondent, mapping presidential coverage for the worldÂ’s oldest and largest news organization with a daily reach of one billion people in more than 120 nations. As president of the White House Correspondents Association for the 2008-2009 year, she shepherded relations between the incoming Obama administration and the press corps. A Washington reporter for 13 years, Loven also has covered the Pentagon post-Sept. 11, the telecom and housing industries and Illinois regional issues. She also covered the Michigan legislature and state politics from 1996-97 and was the AP's lead breaking news and features writer in Detroit from 1994-1996.
