'1965: Civil Rights at 50' Exhibit Opening at the Newseum
The Newseum's newest exhibit will be opening this Saturday to help commemorate the Civil Rights movement
The Newseum’s newest exhibit — “1965: Civil Rights at 50” — will be opening this Saturday and to help commemorate the event, they will be joined by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and CBS News White House correspondent Bill Plante to tell their accounts of the civil rights movement.
The exhibit explores the movement’s struggle for voting rights in 1965, which reached a boiling point on March 7 during the infamous “Bloody Sunday”clash on a bridge in Selma, Alabama, between peaceful protesters and the police.
Norton, DC’s congresswoman starting her 13th term, was an organizer with the Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and helped organize the March on Washington. Plante,
