Zynga Launches "Empires and Allies": A New Social Strategy Game

The San Francisco based social game maker Zynga Inc, known for “FarmVille”, “CityVille” and other hit games on Facebook has introduced a new game called “Empires & Allies”. “Empires & Allies” is the first combat strategy game by Zynga, which the company describes as the cross of “CityVille” and the board game Risk. According to Zynga This is unlike anything this company has done before; Empires & Allies is strategy combat gone social – think CityVille meets Risk. We're focused on bringing our players a new form of entertainment and a strategy game is definitely a new playground for us. Play is in everyone's DNA, and this game lets you have fun and get creative by choosing your own destiny, building a nation and eventually, conquering the world. Empires & Allies challenges the players to rebuild a multi-island nation invaded by evil alliance by a villain called "The Raven". The mission of the players is to rebuilt the army units, recruit or invade friends derive clues from allies and villains. The players also have to fund their armies via rents on huts and houses and select their battleground i.e. air, land or sea. The roles of Friends can be for or against and they can either decide to help you in your defense or fight against you. According to Amer Ajami, the executive producer of Empires & Allies. Zynga limits the damage that such attacks can bring to an island. The company doesn’t want a player of the game to return to their island to find it in ruins. We view this combat more as a chance to give friends a friendly ribbing. Zynga will release Empires & Allies on Facebook today in 12 languages: Malay, Korean, and Norwegian (for the first time), English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Turkish and traditional Chinese. According to the application stats from our partner AllFacebook.com, CityVille from Zynga remained the most popular Facebook app, with nearly 90 million active monthly players. Release of Empires & Allies is a test of Zynga, whether the company can keeps its tradition of hit games on Facebook. Sid Meier's Civilization, one of the most popular strategy games is slated to be released for Facebook soon. Civilization was initially planned to be available on Facebook around the mid of last year, however, as of now it is only available to a limited number of alpha testers. The launch of Empires & Allies could also be seen as a pre-emptive move by Zynga to have a social game in the strategy genre in order to corner this genre as well. Prior to this, none of the Zynga games were strategy based. The launch of the new game comes at a delicate time as according to All Things D the company is rumored to file for an IPO by the end of this week.
