As part of Zynga’s shifting focus from Facebook to mobile development, the developer / publisher has announced the upcoming closure of another Facebook title, Hidden Chronicles. First launched in January 2012, Hidden Chronicles asks players to solve the mystery of their uncle’s disappearance by completing dozens of hidden object scenes and repairing the family mansion.
The news was announced to players via a rewards offer for loyal players. When attempting to access Hidden Chronicles, players are asked to enter their email address in order to receive a special prize package in one of Zynga’s other games: FarmVille 2, Puzzle Charms (formerly Fairytale Twist) or CastleVille Legends.
Players with premium currency are encouraged to spend it before the game’s closure, as no transfers or refunds are being offered.
According to our app tracking service, AppData, Hidden Chronicles still has over 588,000 monthly active users (MAU). However, this is a stark contrast to the company’s most popular title, FarmVille 2, which has over 24.6 million MAU.
Here’s the official word from Zynga:
“The time has come for us to make the difficult decision to bring Hidden Chronicles to an end on 22 July 2014. We are making the tough decision to close Hidden Chronicles so we can put more time and energy into developing new games that we hope you will love just as much. Hidden Chronicles has a truly passionate community of players and we thank you for your continued support and dedication to the game over the years.”
