The latest offering from the Zynga and Hasbro merchandising deal has now seen the light, as the pair’s KRE-O CityVille Invasion game has launched on iOS, and Hasbro has now announced the development of KRE-O CityVille Invasion real-world toys.
Hasbro and Zynga signed the merchandising deal in early 2012. This resulted in the launch of board games based on Zynga’s FarmVille and CityVille Facebook games, with this new KRE-O CityVille line being inspired by the latter.
The mobile game sees players taking control of the CityVille S.O.S. Force to stop the evil Dr. Mayhem and his army from taking over the city. The game features five different combat maps, 15 weapons, 35 playable characters (each with upgradeable stats and outfits), 25 story missions, 400 replayable challenges, 13 types of buildings to construct and five turrets to use as defenses throughout the game.
The real-world play-sets bring some of the game’s locations to life, including skyscrapers, police stations and marinas. Sets include buildings, land decorations, vehicles and both human and animal characters. These sets will launch on store shelves on August 1. The app is now available to download for free on iOS.
Hasbro’s focus on gaming continues to expand. The company recently renewed its relationship with Electronic Arts in a four-year licensing agreement, while Hasbro purchased the majority stake in DragonVale developer Backflip Studio earlier this month. Hasbro was also recently announced as the partner for Angry Birds developer Rovio. Hasbro will create 30 Telepod figures that can be scanned by a device’s camera and used by gamers in Angry Birds Star Wars II.
