Yummly's recipe discovery platform comes to iOS

The Yummly iPhone app brings the service’s popular website tools, including recipe search and recommendation, to mobile, and also introduces a new shopping list feature. Yummly contains over 1 million recipes, which are categorized in a number of ways. Users can search for recipes based on a specific cuisine type or taste, as well as view their nutrition, allergy information, cooking times, required techniques and more. Recipes can even be searched according to holidays where cooking them would be especially appropriate (pumpkin-filled dishes for fall holidays, for instance). The app offers recipe recommendations based on users’ taste preferences, and recipes can be saved in a digital recipe box for future viewing at any time. The shopping list feature allows users to input items they may be shopping for on an everyday basis, and then receive recipe recommendations based on those items. Furthermore, real world items can be scanned and added to the shopping list, or used as further recipe inspiration. "At Yummly, our vision is to become the ultimate kitchen tool. After extensive research and development efforts, we determined that the best way to expand our offering is to provide tools for on-the-go grocery shoppers,” said Brian Witlin, head of mobile and platform at Yummly, in a company statement. “Now, with the Yummly iOS app, we not only provide recipe inspiration, we help people carry their recipes wherever they go and take action at the supermarket with an intuitive and intelligent shopping list. With our extreme focus on design and user experience, we hope to provide the most visually engaging and useful application for home cooks." Before this release, nearly 50 percent of Yummly’s traffic came from mobile devices, and Yummly has already confirmed that the company will continue to expand its mobile offering to meet the demands of a growing mobile community. The Yummly app is free to download on iOS, and is currently the No. 5 top free app in the Food & Drink category on iTunes.
