YouTube Vids Might Not Yet Pay The Bills, But Making 'Em Comes With Perks

If you’re a YouTube personality (or want to be one) you’re probably not making a living just off videos. Okay, if you’re Joe Penna, aka MysteryGuitarMan, you are, but if you’re almost anyone else, you’ve got a day job too.

Still, the low-paying gig does have its perks: you get to play around with videos, have your work seen by millions…oh, and Google occasionally sends you free shit.

That’s right: YouTube is giving 500 of its partners (what it calls invited content creators) $1,000 to spend on video equipment “to produce even higher quality videos and ultimately drive bigger audiences to their work.”

(Translation: We want our share of your ad revenue to increase.)
