The Press Club of Atlantic City announced the winners of its annual Headline Awards contest, now in its 82nd year. WTOP, NPR, WBAL and the Baltimore Sun each picked up at least one first place award.
WBAL radio received first place in the radio stations newscast category and the radio station breaking news category, while WBAL-TV won first place in the broadcast or cable television stations newscast and live breaking news categories.
WTOP received first place for the radio stations news series category, and WTOP.com for the radio affiliated website category and online only writing for radio stations, networks or broadcast syndicates category.
The Baltimore Sun won in the daily newspaper spot news category for its coverage of the Baltimore riots and Freddie Gray.
NPR received first place in the broadcast radio networks and syndicators news series category for “The 1965 Immigration Act & the Transformation of America.”
