Marc Maron’s Podcast Is About to Get Its Biggest Guest Ever: President Obama

'WTF Summit' marks a big step for the medium

President Barack Obama is on the books for a guest appearance on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast. And it's hard to determine the biggest winner in the development.

Well, it's probably Marc Maron, the 51-year-old comedy lifer with a strong counterculture appeal. But what about the podcasting format overall, getting validated by the leader of the free world?

And what about the producers for Maron, his eponymous IFC show? It hasn't yet been renewed for a fourth season—but the chances now seem pretty good to extend the situational comedy if he's interested in returning. The Obama interview could also prove to be a nice springboard for Maron's forthcoming talk show on Vice's new cable channel.

According to Maron's reps this morning, Obama will appear on WTF in an episode that will be posted via his website and mobile app on June 22. And a Deadline article stated the president is planning to sit down with the comic in his Los Angeles garage studio tomorrow as part of a West Coast fundraising trip.

"This is a big day for our country, for me and for my cats," Maron said humorously in a statement. "I'm looking forward to a respectful conversation with the president. I'm calling it the WTF Summit. I hope he's cool with that."

His podcasts have been downloaded some 100 million times since debuting in 2009. On Twitter, Maron hinted something big was coming this week.
