European social game developer Wooga has over taken Playdom to become the 4th largest social gaming company on Facebook. Wooga boasts an active community of 20 MMAUs which it garnered within 20 months. More after the jump.
We recently covered Wooga’s marvelous ascent to the 5th largest social game developer position in March 17th when they had 18 MMAUs. In just under a month the firm has accumulated an additional 2 million monthly active users. Wooga currently has 5-6 titles on Facebook: Brain Buddies, Bubble Island, MonsterWorld , Happy Hospital and Diamond Dash. In our last post we attributed Wooga’s success to successful adaptation to the Facebook platform and its ever evolving ecosystem and high quality titles – the same holds up today.
“Capturing 20 million active Users in just 20 months and surpassing Playdom to become number four in the world is a stunning accomplishment. We will remain focused on producing high quality games with a unique game experience for the future. With our ambitious team, we aim to become number two by the end of this year”, says Jens Begemann, Founder and CEO.
According to AllFacebook Statistics, the userbase has been climbing steadily for the past month. Each of Wooga’s games is unique in its own sense, indicating that Wooga is striving to create the next generation of mass-market appeal quality social gaming. Playdom on the other hand is seeing a steady drop in users despite launching new titles such as the Gardens of Time and Deep Realms. It is possible that Playdom could be shifting gears to focus on more niche games the way Kabam and Casual Collective (and soon RockYou to some extent) are so the number of users may be less appealing as a metric vs engagement and retention. Congratulations again to Wooga!
