Tom Llamas, who joined WNBC New York from Miami’s NBC6 in 2009, is moving on from the noon news telecast to take on more reporting duties. Tuned In (edited by former FishbowlNY co-editor and all around good guy, Jerry Barmash) reports that Llamas had been in talks with WNBC for months about landing him a bigger role with I Team, the station’s investigative unit.
“I don’t know if any other television journalist on the planet has that type of opportunity,” Llamas told Tuned In. “So I’m really looking forward to it.”
Taking Llamas’ spot as a noon co-anchor will be Rob Schmitt, who joins WNBC from LA’s KCBS/KCAL.
Llamas will continue to co-anchor the 5 pm news telecast.
