WNBC Shifts News Lineup

WNBC is tinkering with their early evening news again. We reported back in July about the cancellation of Live at Five and its replacement by Access Hollywood and News 4 You… Well, now News 4 You is getting the axe. Instead, WNBC is doing a straight news show to replace 4 You‘s feature-oriented shindig:

“We thought there might be an appetite for a longer form, different kind of news,” Ch. 4 President Frank Comerford said yesterday of “News 4 You.” “But while I like it, it didn’t seem to be the right thing at 5:30.”

Starting Monday, Ch. 4 will air “Access Hollywood” at 4:30 p.m., followed by “Extra,” then Simmons and Gargiulo will do the news at 5:30. (“Access Hollywood” will also air at 7:30 p.m.)

The rest of the lineup remains unchanged.

The 5:30 show, which marks a return to news in the time period, will be hard news at the top and a series of rotating segments – ranging from education to technology and more – said senior vice president of news Dan Forman.

If anyone at WNBC behind the scenes is reading this… we’d love to know what prompted the change. Give us a holler.
